about

Wau Wau Defa Cool translated from Wolof is Yeah, yeah it's cool. In making this record I thought about the African diaspora and all the sounds that African and Afro-(insert country here) has influenced. From Bahia to Angola, DC and New York to Nairobi. These sounds and textures are global yet throughout them all are cultural ties that bind it all together. I hear Yoruba and Orisha songs in deep house from Chicago, just like i hear go-go in the talking drum. There is a spiritual/cultural confluence that takes place in all of these sounds. This is a loose interpretation of that singular sound, spanning 16 pieces, each its own individual with a specific influence. I hope you enjoy. - Matthias
